Title: Traffic Lights At Dobbies
Description: Dobbies Island

I've just read that there will be traffic lights installed at Doddie's traffic island A5/A49 junction. Yes, this may well stop any more accidents but it will do bugger all to the congestion that builds up. Why oh why did'nt they build a proper motorway style junction in the first place? Oh i know, money and most probably miscalculation on the amount of traffic that travels on are two most busiest trunk routes  :(

That roundabout is a nightmare at busy times. The sheer volume of traffic on the A5 coupled with the fact that some drivers seem to think that they are still on the M54 or on a F1 track means that there are tail backs on the old A49. Traffic lights should help and give those poor souls trying to get out from Dobbies etc a better chance. It amazes me that there haven't been more serious accidents there.

Once again I think the planners who built the By-pass origionally did not anticipate the amounts of traffic in the congested town of Shrewsbury. It is a bit like getting onto the famous Paris roundabout at the Arc De Triumph at times as you dice with the chance of a collision with another vehicle. Safer it will be more congested that too. Thanks once again all you bright civil engineers out there in the first place!

I think that I read that the Dobbies exit will be the only one not having traffic lights.

I suppose we have to assume that the other exits with traffic lights would give those trying to leave Dobbies a hopefully better opportunity to safely exit?

Yes, that's how I understand it, lemon squeezer.

They can't have traffic lights at the exit from Dobbies as there wouldn't be enough room for the traffic to queue up. Eh? So how do they explain all the traffic waiting to get out of Dobbies every day?

Well I suppose there will be opportunities for traffic to come out as and when. Alternatively, I remember Dobbies applying to have an exit connecting with Pulley Lane a few years back , perhaps that idea can be reconsidered.
