Title: Area Information And Opinions Needed!

schizoidgal - October 2, 2007 07:44 AM (GMT)
Hi,

We need your help. We have now had two failed chains but again have a new buyer. We spent last week up in Shrewsbury house hunting and have come back to Essex with three very good possibles. The problem is they are all as good as each other :( .

We would love to have your invaluable opinions on these three different parts of Shrewsbury (you will not be held liable for the decision we make ;) ).

The areas are:

Sutton - between Sutton Road and Pritchard Way

Copthorne - in the area east of the Hospital, north of Mytton oak Road

Bayston Hill - to the north western part

Thanks for all your support,
Schizoidgal et al.

I would regard your Sutton choice as the best, followed by the Copthorne one. Is the Sutton one off Sutton Road itself? Quite a nice area that.

The Copthorne and Bayston Hill choices are quite far out and so unless you want to be driving everywhere I would not go for them. Sutton is nearer to services and a 20-25 min walk into town if you fancy it.

It is in the farthings estate, high enough not to get flooded too!

It did feel like a nice area, the house has a small 4th bedroom and that has been why we have been tossing back and forth as we like the house very much indeed.
Just dug out a new map that I bought for my hubby whilst we were there and it is much better than our other one. Sutton is better placed for public footpaths out into the fields than the other two options whilst being suitably placed for hubby to walk to the station.

hi schizoidgal
so you are still having trouble, poor you!
i think all 3 areas are pretty good, and some of the best areas of shrewsbury.
i agree with the other comment that sutton is nice-my in laws live there and it is nice and quiet, easy access to town(we stay there when we have nights out) and the local school would be meole brace-which my husband went to, although he didnt like it much! i remember from previous posts that schools were important factors too.
my nan lives at copthorne and i generally think that is a a nice area, although maybe due to the position of her bungalow-opposite the beacon pub-she has had a number of incidents with youths breaking her lights, pulling up plants etc.
according to the police though these youths came in taxis from meole brace???
i think the local school here would be radbrook or priory for secondary but im not sure and i beleive there is a primary school in copthorne-near to my nans by the big green common.
i personally am not as keen on bayston hill, and i know they had trouble with teenagers hanging around the local shops but think thats ok now.
they have a local primary school which seems good and the secondary school could be meole brace or possible other town ones or even church stretton.
bayston hill does also have its own drs etc which i can vouch for as we are registered there
apart from that im not sure what other info i can give
just ask if you think there is anything else you need to know??

Hi
Belvidere/Portland Nurseries is a very nice area too, also closer to station/schools/bus service etc.this area can be found in the area behind Lord Hills column, you cant miss that.

The only problem with Bayston Hill is the amount of traffic that builds up at the Dobbies roundabout, ie the junction of A5 &A49, usually early AM & late PM going to work/school and coming home......... ;)

kateharris - October 3, 2007 11:24 AM (GMT)
i have to agree with lairdmicheal that traffic around dobbies is a nightmare at peak hours and actually getting onto the a49 from bayston hill isnt the easiest as mostly traffic is fairly constant so not the easiest to get out onto-but you can go through bayston hill down pulley lane and come out below the dobbies island straight towards sainsburys

Well, I think we can now knock out Copthorne which just leaves us with the two houses in Sutton and Bayston Hill.

We know about Pulley Lane (great isn't it?) and the only time we are likely to be heading south is on a Sunday visiting the in-laws, so Dobbie's Corner doesn't particularly worry us.

HB can get a bus easy enough from Bayston Hill to the station or he can cycle in good weather. Sutton, he can walk but has to walk further to a bus stop in bad weather.
Both seem alright for walks with the children. And the schools are fine.

Stuck between a cheaper house which needs extending to be big enough for us lot or a slightly more expensive but much bigger house which needs general (some urgent) improvement throughout.

Also, anyone know anything about Oil CH? Particularly how expensive it is evrsus gas?

Argh, this is proving to be so hard!

Going slightly nutty,
Schizoidgal.

Did you get my PM schizoidgal?
I'm surprised nobody has brought up the obvious decisive factor...
The Bayston Hill Villager magazine!! :)

Proud Salopian - October 3, 2007 04:23 PM (GMT)
I would go for the Sutton option. :)

schizoidgal - October 3, 2007 06:46 PM (GMT)
Well, we've gone and done it. Sutton it is. Offer accepted.

Now, fingers crossed everyone that Chain numero 3 holds tight (particularly as there are only two properties in it too)!

Schizoidgal.

Thanks for the PM, I didn't realise I had it though until the offer had gone in. I think we are still happy with Sutton though.

Hello Schizoidgal, glad you picked Sutton. The schools are good situated on the Springfield side , infant and junior , my wife is a governor at the junior. :)

im sure most are aware of it anyway :P

Proud Salopian - October 8, 2007 03:25 PM (GMT)
Would be a nice little earner to buy the Pulley Lane bridge that goes over the A5 and put a toll on it!
