Title: Best Place To Park In Shrewsbury?

schizoidgal - July 10, 2007 01:08 PM (GMT)
When we went house hunting in April, we parked in Bridge Street as we simply followed the signs.

We want to have a proper day in Shrewsbury this time, checking out the shops, picnic in the park etc etc.
But where should we park?
Bridge St, use the park & ride, or somewhere else?
The park and ride may not be the best as we will need to pay for 2 adults, 2 children and have a 2 year old in a buggy. What are the other options?

And if you think we are asking a lot now, just wait until we move :D .

if the weather is nice,I park on Kingsland Road(free and no time restriction)

this is next to a playing field which goes down to the river where Burr's Ferry used to be.

from here you can either walk to the toll bridge(1p per person - optional but I like to pop it in) or follow Severn to one of the other bridges if you are feeling like a walk.

p.s. there are steps up the side of the toll bridge, but if you walk towards the boat house there is a footpath that you can use.(about 20 yrds from bridge.

That's quite close to town and it will be fun for the girls to pay their 'toll'. Are there any ogres?

Is Kingsland Rd usually easy to park in?

Thanks S.G.D.,

Kingsland is a good place to park if the weather is good, if it's raining you could get wet as it's a 10 min walk to the shops.

The long stay car parks are pretty cheap if you are staying for the whole day, less than £3 I think. The one at the bottom of Wyle Cop next to the Infinity and Beyond shop is good if you want the shops and The Quarry.

As you will be coming from Wenlock, the nearest large car park is off Abbey Foregate opposite the Abbey church. From there you can stroll across the English Bridge and up the Cop into the town centre - ten minutes perhaps. There's a long stay car park at St Julians Friars and a NCP car park at the bottom of the Cop as well. Apart from Raven Meadows, the other car parks within the river loop are short stay I believe.

Yup, as the old codger says if you're coming in from Much Wenlock you can park at the council's large long stay car parks at Abbey Foregate or St. Julian's Friars. There's also the NCP car park at the bottom of Wyle Cop. You could also try parking at the cinema on Old Potts Way for free.

i agree with sgd. if we believe the weather will stay good we often park at knigsland and walk into town with our little one as he likes to see the sights and can then play in the park too
on saturdays in the summer i get to park in frankwell by the cricket ground for free if hubbys team are at home, but dont know if you would want to risk that!! :P
and i do also have to watch for a bit
