Title: Butermarket Incident
ChrisBradley - June 23, 2007 03:57 AM (GMT)
There has been an incident at the Buttermarket club on Howards Bank and there are reports of shots supposedly being fired in the club at around 03:00 and someone has reportedly been hurt.
The area at the bottom of Howards Bank and Castle Street has been closed off by police and as of 04:00 there were two police cars and an ambulance blocking the road and the area was cordoned off with police incident tape.
There is talk of the incident being gang related.
The facts are sketchy at the moment as to the exact circumstances of the incident and all reports are unconfirmed, this is what is being reported by a few people who were in the club at the time.
This may be a Shrewsbury Forum exclusive as I would imagine no statement to the media has been made yet.

Hence the term, armed robbery.

Have'nt been to the butter market fo a while. It always seemed dark and dodgy. Always remember the sticky carpets ridden with fag butts and beer. Got to look to the local police here I feel and the intelligence they dont seem to receive in Shrewsbury about gun culture

To be honest, I think the Buttermarket is a great, well policed venue, this is definately out of the ordinary and has more to do with the fact it was a speed garage event (a genre notorious for gun crime and related violence). Most of the people at that event were from outside the area, a club in Wolverhampton had turned this event down because of the fears of violence.
I was at the Buttermarket that night (in the cellars at an unrelated 'scouse house' event). Luckily, I left about 1:45am, but outside there were people everywhere, queueing at the club to get in and in the railway car-park behind the sorting office. The atmosphere outside felt a bit dodgy even then.
Got to say though it's out of the ordinary, the Buttermarket is a great club and with the likes of Liquid going down the pan is probably Shrewsbury's only true 'nightclub'.

i had heard the same as liquid here. apparently it was not really a "local" event as most of the revellers had come from wolverhampton etc as it was a cancelled event elsewhere. i had also heard that the bouncers were aware of some of the nastier elements of the party goers but were too scared to search them , so they managed to get in wih their guns!
cant say i have been there for many years and wouldnt be going again very soon anyway!
thank god it wasnt more serious!!!
