Does any reader know the origin of the area name "Ditherington" Shrewsbury

Hmm, I always thought it was named after the "dithering" of the traffic passing through it - has always seemed a bit of a bottleneck to me...

"I heard that ditherington took its name from people being hung on heathgates island and 'Dithered' along the road to their death, anyone know if this is true??"

This is what I've always been led to believe too.
