Title: Monopoly - Shrewsbury

madlara - April 27, 2007 12:37 PM (GMT)
Hello all
I couldn't see this posted already but apologies if it has been....
Browsing through the BBC news website I found a story about the new Monopoly board which is being designed where the public vote for which towns they would like on the board. Shrewsbury at the moment is not on the shortlist for the board but has been voted for a few times.
Click on the link below to have a look and vote for whichever Shropshire town you want (Shrewsbury!!)

Happy voting

:D cool. i have cast my vote

madlara - April 27, 2007 12:54 PM (GMT)

Forgot to add, you can vote everyday for your chosen town and the closing date is May 25th :)

Proud Salopian - April 27, 2007 01:15 PM (GMT)
Yep, vote for Shrewsbury (remember to put County:Shropshire) under the "wildcard" choice.

Proud Salopian - April 27, 2007 01:16 PM (GMT)
btw - the "shortlist" of places they have is the official list of cities in the United Kingdom. So small places such as St. David's and Ely are on it. But much larger places such as Northampton, Warrington, Reading, Shrewsbury etc are not.

Follow our progress with this link btw - we're doing well!

Well done everyone.

Proud Salopian - April 27, 2007 01:49 PM (GMT)
I'll buy the board if Shrewsbury is Mayfair!!

Chris Pritchard - April 27, 2007 02:11 PM (GMT)
I've just voted, I'll mention it tomorrow on the radio let's see if we can get well ahead of the others!

Proud Salopian - April 27, 2007 02:17 PM (GMT)
Nice one Chris!

Chris Pritchard - April 27, 2007 02:39 PM (GMT)

Exeter are screaming ahead with more than 1500 votes then us (who told them!!!)
Remember everyone to vote everyday........

Proud Salopian - April 27, 2007 05:37 PM (GMT)
The voting is a bit of a farce to be honest... I wonder if they really will honour the results when they create the board.

Mayfair = Kingsland

Old Kent Road = ??

We only have one train station too, maybe the proposed halts at Battlefield and Meole could be another two but i'm stuck for the Fourth!

the old codger - April 27, 2007 10:58 PM (GMT)
Wasn't there an idea to build a station a while ago to the east of town (Preston?) with access off the A49?

If we're talking about a Shrewsbury based Monopoly board then the four stations could be either the 3 park and ride sites and the railway station OR how about the four major supermarkets in the town (could get sponsorship money from them to fund the board that way)? Let's face it - they are the cornerstones of today's supermarket dominance in the food retail sector!

Yes. But this is Shrewsbury and it will never happen in a million and one years.

I have spoken to Hasbro today regarding the new addition of Monopoly and how we are doing, according to their spokesperson we where the first wildcard town and they think we are doing really well.

If you have voted already then its ok to vote again every day, although I find that a bit daft but never mind.

PLUG TIME
If your near a radio tomorrow morning around about 11:30 take a listen to 106.5 The Severn I'm going to be talking to Joanne live about how its all going.

kateharris - May 1, 2007 02:25 PM (GMT)
we are still on the leader board and ive voted again today.
i have noticed a link on beacon radios website too. well done to the radio stations for getting involved

Andy Cooke - May 1, 2007 04:06 PM (GMT)
Are radio Shropshire doing anything or is this too snooty for them ?

Chris Pritchard - May 2, 2007 03:19 PM (GMT)
Not sure on that Andy, I've not been able to listen this week. I know Beacon are now promoting the fact that Shrewsbury can get onto the board.

Its not looking good at the moment the university towns have obviously been rallying around on votes...

We need another push to at least get us back into the top 5.

Yeah, I've just come back from a 2 week field trip to find all this fuss about a monopoly board. The universities have been using Facebook (as usual) to get votes - I've voted for Cardiff already today... It's doing quite well. Shrewsbury's still on the board (just)

Where is BaronVille?

Looks like another daft internet bandwagon, along the lines of the annual campaign to get John Fashanu selected as BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
