I am in a old, picturesque village not far from Shrewsbury. There is a church here, but the nearest pub is up the road in a hamlet with a similar name to the village I am at. There is some nice woodland nearby.

Not Bicton.
It's to the north of the River Severn and is about a mile from a village that once had its own railway station.

Correct - it is Astley.
