Title: Park At Your Peril In Ludlow
Description: State of car parks in Ludlow

Does anyone take a pride in this town anymore? It appears that Ludlow District Council are only interested in maintaining areas which directly influence their status as a leading tourist attraction.

Galdeford car park in Ludlow has always attracted an unruly element of the community after dark. Every morning the place is littered with broken glass which, besides being a nuisance to motorists and a danger to children, is not particularly welcoming to visitors to the town.

I find it incredible that when I return to my car during the afternoon no attempt has been made to clear the glass and broken bottles which still remain strewn around the car park.

Presumably the District Council has a cleaning programme which I can only assume is carried out late in the day when the car park is virtually clear of cars and before the next nightly onslaught of vandalism.

Surely it is not beyond the comprehension of those responsible for street cleaning to arrange for the Galdeford car park to be swept and cleared of litter early in the morning before the majority of motorists arrive.

Do you mean the the Smithfield car park in Lower Galdeford? I usually park there when I visit Ludlow but I haven't been for a few weeks. It's good value as the Council charge you just 60p to park all day and there are toilets as well. I've never seen any broken glass so it must be a recent problem. Something to do with the recycling bins maybe?

Surely sweeping up isn't a real solution, the people responsible for the mess need to be dealt with.

No I mean the car park at Upper Galdeford, adjacent to Somerfield. It is probably en-route to the kebab shop after chucking out time at the local hostelries!

Maybe the idiots who cause such a mess/vandalism should be... I don't know (and this may sound terribly old fashioned)... arrested by the police and either fined or ordered to do community service?

Locally this sort of anti-social behaviour was taken up by a residents committee. (I live in North Shropshire)They gathered sufficient evidence on the perpetrators and they were all served with ASBO's. The evidence gathered was a video of the offenders 'donuting' in the private car park with their cars, littering and creating criminal damage.

It's the Upper Galdeford car park then by the supermarket and the library. I don't use that one often as it's cheaper to park in Lower Galdeford and just walk into town (5 minutes). Being next to the town centre, the Upper Galdeford (or Portcullis) car park is likely to suffer more anti-social behaviour due to all the pubs and restaurants in the vicinity
