Not sure if it's the one you mean, but there was once a Unicorn pub on Wyle Cop, which is now Tanners Wine.

There could of course have been another Unicorn pub in town over the years. I believe the Wyle Cop example I have given closed decades ago. It was also a hotel.

Photos and some local information can be found on one of my Shuts of Shrewsbury threads:

Wine Merchants' Passage

I think though member "sgd" will have more info for you and probably the answer.

hello again Cherry & Proud Salopian

the Unicorn closed down in 1982.

If you follow David's picture link, the Unicorn was the building on the right of the first photograph - the one with the green door.

It is now Ramna's balti house, they have retained some or the original features and their meals are superb,so if you get the chance do pop in.

Prior to becoming Ramna's it was the Unicorn coffee shop.

I hope that this is of some use.

I've seen a photo from the early 20th Century and it shows that the whole black and white building where Tanners is now was the Unicorn hotel. I guess it must have slowly reduced in size over the years until eventual closure.

There's not many pubs on Wyle Cop these days at all, which is surprising as you'd think there'd be quite a few more on what is one of the main roads into the town centre. I can name only the Lion & Pheasant, Nags Head, Lion Hotel (not really a pub) and the Old Lion Tap. Are there any more surviving on Wyle Cop/down its passages?

Angel.
Barge.
Blue Boar.
Bridge Tavern.
Coachmaker's Arms.
Compasses.(No 71 where the passage took it's name from.)
Elephant.
Elephant and Castle.
George.
Hero of Moultan.
London House/Commercial/Coffee House.
Old Holyhead Coach Office.
Pheasant.
Raven and Bell.
Red Lion.
Rose and Crown.
Royal Vaults.
Severn Trow.
Ship.
Spread Eagle.
Trotting Horse.
Trow.
Unicorn.
Wheatsheaf.

due to frequent name changes some of the above may be duplications.
