Title: Some Q's As It Looks Like We're Coming You Way!
Description: School catchment areas

Well, thanks for all your encouragement and advice over the last couple of weeks, we decided to put our house on the market yesterday and today we got an acceptable offer :o :o :o .
So, now we have to get a tad more serious....
We were intending to go and see the grandparents in Hereford over Easter but it looks like we will be house hunting too (with the added bonus of leaving our two older ones with the grandparents  ).
We can work out the catchment areas for the towns primary schools but there doesn't seem to be an outlines for the twons 5 secondary schools.
Sundorne and Wakeman look like no-no's due to their results but the others look alright. Question is which school do you go to if you live in Bayston Hill, Sutton Farm, Bicton Heath, Meole Brace or Copthorne?
Ooh my head is beginning to hurt from looking at maps all day. I need a drink.
Thanks in advance again,
Schizoidgal.

Thanks, that's were we found the primary catchment areas but Shrewsbury just seems to have one big catchment for 5 secondary schools on the map. Just don't want to find a nice house in a nice area for the girls to end up in Sundorne in a few years.

It looks as if there is just the one catchment area for the whole of Shrewsbury. On the web site menu there is an item "Parent's Guide to Education in Shropshire". Using this link you can download a pdf file with all the information you need. Pages 44 to 45 seem to have what you're after.

Traditional catchment areas:
Bayston Hill,Copthorne and Meole go to Meole Brace or Priory.
Sutton Farm go to Belvidere or Meole Brace.
Bicton Heath go to Wakeman,Priory or the Corbet which is at Baschurch.

Meole Brace is a science college and the Priory is a business and enterprise college, which may help you decide.

the old codger - a big thank you for going to the trouble in finding the guide and the pages to read!
s.g.d - many thanks also for the word om traditional catchment areas, very useful indeed for us.
We're putting together maps now with the available properties in those areas, so when we visit just after Easter we'll know which ones to view.
Cheers!

i would also add to this that a number of children from bayston hill also go to church stretton school which has a bus service to get them there and i think this is a pretty good school(biased as i went there) but i want my son to go there as it is smaller than any of the others so they get more attention. im sure itis about half the size of meole etc
i also think as shrewsbury has a wide catchment i believe you can request schools if you do it early enough but im not positive
hope that helps

Ooh, I like the idea of our girls still being able to go to Church Stretton. Our eldest has a few 'issues' as she was bullied all through Infants and going to a smaller secondary school would suit her a lot better as the staff would be more aware of her problems.
Thanks for that Kate.

poor thing!! thats so horrid. but that is one reason i prefer the smaller schools as it is easier for the teachers to sort things out.
i also think as league tables go they are pretty high but i havent checked. i think most of the same teachers are there that were there when i was there and they were pretty good.
good luck
